The City has a Movable Heritage Assets Collection (MHAC), which includes artefacts and objects, as well as a number of specialist collections that are of historic value.
Our
Movable Heritage Assets Collection Policy was approved by Council in 2020 to provide guidelines for the supervision of the MHAC, assign responsibility for the management of the MHAC and establish the relevant procedures to be followed when adding or removing items from the MHAC.
The policy aims to:
- Provide a framework to manage, curate and safeguard movable heritage assets in the collection, according to recognised international standards;
- Set guidelines to transform, develop and grow the existing collection to be inclusive and representative of the diverse communities of Cape Town; and
- Manage the collection within the legislative framework that is applicable to movable heritage assets.
If you have the necessary skills and experience, you can apply to become a member of the Advisory Movable Heritage Assets Collection Task Team and get involved in the management of the collection in an advisory and voluntary capacity.
Before you apply, read the
Terms of Reference.
Please note
We are looking for volunteers who have specialist skills and knowledge in the heritage and collections management field.
Members of the task team do not receive compensation.
